Background

Percussive therapy can be defined as the rapid and repetitive application of pressure perpendicular to the body. This percussive stimulus causes the targeted tissues to experience both pressure and vibration simultaneously. The physiological and neurological responses to pressure and vibration produce evidence-based therapeutic effects which include:

Participation in this study is not mandatory. You have been selected to participate in this study because you are an existing Biostrap user and predefined inclusion criteria. Participation in this study is optional and you may withdraw your participation at any point by sending an email to: labs@biostrap.com

Study Incentives

In addition to experiencing the benefits of Percussive Therapy, you will be provided with various incentives for your participation in this study, free of charge, including:

– Access to Biostrap Meditation Plus and Sleep Lab subscriptions for the duration of this study (6- weeks plus additional 6-weeks upon completion)

*Additional incentives may be offered to participants who maintain optimal compliance with their protocol. Participants who are non-compliant for three (3) consecutive days will receive a warning and be removed from the study if non-compliant for an additional two (2) days. Non-compliant participants will be removed from the study and required to return or purchase the incentives.

Potential Risks & Contraindications

Percussive therapy is considered a safe, natural therapy with minimal side effects or contraindications when used properly. Contraindications to the use of Percussive Therapy include:

Pregnancy
Skin Rash, Open Wounds or Blisters
Diabetes
Tumors
Varicose Veins
Bruises
Sensitivity to Pressure
Use of blood thinners or medications that alter sensory perception
History of Embolism
Recent Injury or Surgery to Lower Body
Connective Tissue Disorders
Pacemaker
Local Tissue Inflammation

Please do not participate in this study if you meet any of the above exclusion criteria or have extended travel plans throughout the study duration.

What You Should Know

The data collected will be made available to study investigators and Therabody for analysis, potential publication, and marketing purposes. The data used will NOT include your name, address, telephone number, email or any other information that could be used to identify you. The data that WILL be used for analysis include biometric and survey data.

Protocol Overview

Duration:

35 days (Baseline, Intervention & Wash-Out)

Population:

80 physically active subjects, 18-40 years old

Percussive Therapy Protocol:

Participants will be guided through up to two (2) daily percussive therapy routines with in-app video demonstrations. Including manual Pulse Reports, daily time commitment ranges from 0-30 minutes approximately.

Daily Survey

  • Immediately upon waking, participants will be prompted to answer a short daily survey. This survey should be completed EVERY day, including rest days.

Morning Pulse Report (Morning PR)

  • Complete 5-min comprehensive pulse report within 30 minutes of awakening

Percussive Therapy/Pulse Report 1 (PT/PR 1)

  • Immediately upon waking, run a 5-min pulse report
  • Whole Body Percussive Therapy Protocol
  • Wait 5-minutes, and then repeat 5-min pulse report

Percussive Therapy/Pulse Report 2 (PT/PR 2)

  •  Wait 10 minutes after completing exercise, and then perform 5-min pulse report
  • Lower Body Percussive Therapy Protocol
  • Repeat 5-min pulse report immediately following
  • Repeat 5-min pulse report 30 minutes after PT protocol

Pre-Sleep Percussive Therapy (PSPT)

  • TBD

Compliance Requirements

Participants protocol includes 5 days per week. If participant is non-complaint for 3 consecutive days, they will receive a one-time warning. If non-compliant for an additional two days, the participant will be removed from the study and required to return the device or purchase the product ($399) if they want to keep it.
